ISLAMABAD – Renowned Indian journalist and peace activist Kuldeep Nayar on Tuesday urged his country to cut the military budget. “Both India and Pakistan should cut their military budget and former should take initiative in this regard,” Kuldeep Nayar said here at a ceremony organized by South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA).
He was heading Indian visiting delegation comprising Journalists and peace activists. Kuldeep Nayar said that people of both sides of divide wanted peace, love and friendships, but New Dehli and Islamabad were paying no heed to their aspirations.
“Both countries have to remove religious biases in their syllabi at primary level. We have to include those people in our syllabi who scarified their lives while fighting against British rules,” he said. Indian parliament member Dr Bhalchandra Mungekar said that prisoners and detained fishermen should be released by Indian and Pakistani forces.
Dr Mangraker urged the peace activists of both sides of divide to press their governments for addressing fishermen problems. Another Indian journalist, Shahid Siddique said peace was not on the priority list of both countries’ rulers.
Senior Pakistani Journalists Afzal Khan, famous poetess Kishwar Naheed and human right activist Tahira Abdullah also spoke on the occasion.
