LAHORE – Pakistan Olympics Association president Lt Gen (retd) Arif Hasan believes that Pakistan’s progress in the field of sports depends on coordinated efforts by the ministries of sports, youth and education.
During a Meet the Press programme organised by Sports Journalists Association of Lahore and Sports Writers Association of Pakistan, the POA president said that Pakistan’s only hope of gold in the Olympics was hockey because other sports did not meet international standards. He added that it was important for Pakistan to win the World Cup for the solidarity of the country.
“The national sport is the only discipline in which we hope to win medal in the Olympics,” he said. Arif said that the POA, in collaboration with the British Council and UNICEF, is organising sports and education awareness programmes in Sindh which will also be held in the other provinces of the country.
“We also plan to hold a National Sports Convention and all the stake-holders will be invited to give their views on sports and education, sports and private sector and the relation between sports and media personnel,” he added.
