LAHORE – The Lahore High Court dismissed on Tuesday various petitions challenging removal of more than 100 assistance prosecutors general and deputy prosecutors general. Justice Sheikh Azmat Saaed ruled that their appointment was made on a temporary basis. The court further ruled that matter was taken up in the Supreme Court which decided they would remain as APG and DPG until new recruitment was made by Punjab Public Service Commission (PSC).
The court observed that all petitioners were given full opportunity to apply for the positions in question but they failed to meet criteria. The petitioners argued that they were appointed as APG and DPG on a contract basis for a three-year period and that the Supreme Court had ruled that would continue to work until new recruitment by PPSC. They maintained the recruitment process had not been completed yet because only 24 positions had been filled against 50 sanctioned posts. They prayed the court to set aside their removal order and reinstate them in their positions.
