LAHORE – Christian religious and political leaders have condemned the desecration of the holy Quran in Florida by two pastors, urging stern action against the individuals who created disharmony and misunderstanding among followers of the two religions. Church of Pakistan Presiding Bishop Samuel Azriah said the act was an attempt to harm reconciliation between Christians and Muslims, while Joseph Francis from the Centre for Legal Aid Assistance and Settlement (CLAAS) said the act was a violation of the UN resolutions on religion and belief and Terry Jones and his accomplice should be punished according to law and their case should be taken to the International Court of Justice.
Napolean Qayyum, leader of the minorities wing of the Pakistan People’s Party, also condemned the incident. He said the two pastors should be given exemplary punishment for trying to create disharmony between Christians and Muslims. Separately, members of the civil society also held a small rally at the Charing Cross to protest against Quran’s desecration.
