Abidi explores countless moods, modes of communication

KARACHI – Bani Abidi was born in Karachi in 1971. She received her Bachelor in Fine Arts degree from Lahore’s National College of Arts in 1994 and her Master of Fine Arts degree from America’s School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1999.
Abidi has worked primarily in video for the past several years. Her videos have been shown widely at solo and group exhibitions internationally.
Her group exhibitions include 7th Gwangju Biennale 2008, Kwangju, South Korea; Thermocline of Art: New Asian Waves, ZKM, Karlsruhe, Germany (2007); Singapore Biennale, Singapore (2006); Sub-Contingent: The South Asian Sub Continent in Contemporary Art, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin, Italy (2006); Contemporary Commonwealth, National Gallery of Victoria, Australia (2006); 3rd Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale, Fukuoka, Japan (2005); and ‘A Place Called Home’: Group Show, National South African Gallery, Durban, Cape Town, Johannesburg, South Africa (2004).
Her solo shows include Gallery Ske, Bangalore, India (2008); Green Cardamom, London, UK (2008); TPW Gallery, Toronto, Canada (2007); Haines Gallery, San Francisco, USA (2006); and VM Art Gallery, Karachi (2006).
Recent acquisitions of her work include The Museum of Modern Art, New York; Patricia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin, Italy; Margulies Collection, Miami; Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, Japan; and Devi Art Foundation, New Delhi, India.
