KARACHI – A monument of Pir Sibghatullah Rashdi, also known as Sooriah Badshah, will be constructed in Sanghar during the current year, said Sindh Culture Minister Sassui Palijo on Monday at a departmental meeting organised in connection with the Sindhi icon’s 68th death anniversary. Palijo said that a committee comprising of intellectuals, writers and historians will be formed this month to look after construction work of the memorial. She said that the Culture Department will also write a letter to the British government to hand over historical documents concerning Sooriah Badshah to the Sindh government.
Paying rich tributes to Sooriah Badshah for his services, struggle and great sacrifices for freedom of Sindh, she said that he raised the slogan of “freedom or death” and waged a war against British colonial rule. “We are proud that a leader of the stature of Sooriah Badshah was born in this land of Sufis, and preferred to sacrifice his life to protect his motherland and nation that to surrender before the enemy,” she said.
