ISLAMABAD – The Supreme Court issued its detailed judgment regarding the case of the appointment of Justice (Retd) Deedar Hussain Shah as Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Tuesday.
The court, in its 30-page ruling that was penned by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, termed ‘necessary’ the government’s consultation with the opposition leader and Chief Justice on NAB chairman’s appointment.
A three-judge bench of the apex court had issued a short ruling about the appointment of NAB’s chief on March 10.
Referring to Al-Jehad Trust case, the ruling said that a ‘consultation’ has to be “effective, meaningful, purposive, consensus-oriented, leaving no room for complaint of arbitrariness or unfairplay.”
It further said that both the Constitution, as well as the relevant laws, has been violated in the matter of the appointment of NAB’s chairman.
