KARACHI – Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Qaim Ali Shah on Monday issued an end-May deadline for the completion of strengthening and restructuring protective bunds. Presiding over a high-level meeting on Monday, he said time is of the essence since the next flood season is near and from people in interior Sindh are unhappy with the slow pace of repair works. The CM added that the Federal government had assured Sindh of providing Rs 5 billion, of which Rs 2.5 billion are to be released immediately. Finance Minister Murad Ali Shah said that Rs 2.6 billion were released to the Irrigation Department on February 28 for the repairs of bunds. Participants of the meeting were also informed that the Federal government is providing a further grant of Rs 1 billion for repair works.
