KARACHI – MCB Bank plans to open four new branches in Sri Lanka next year, where six branches are already operational, making MCB one of the largest foreign banks in Sri Lanka.
MCB Bank Chairman Mian Muhammad Mansha called on the President, Mahinda Rajapakse, at the Temple Trees in Sri Lanka. Mr Mansha informed the president that his group is keen to in participate in the economic development of the island.
During the meeting, the MCB chairman presented an overview of his organisation, and in view of vast opportunities in the island, offered to invest in a number of ventures. He said that the new branches would be opened at Batticaloa, Kurunegala and in Colombo. This, he added, would increase the number of MCB branches in Sri Lanka to 10.
The chairman apprised President Mahinda Rajapakse of innovative technologies, which are being used by his group to produce power in Pakistan which could be replicated in Sri Lanka, if provided an opportunity in this regard. He assured the president that his group has attained global level efficiency in power generation and would serve the Sri Lankan consumers at competitive rates.
Chairman MCB said that the post conflict Sri Lanka opens up great opportunity in the tourism industry and peace and tranquility in the island would attract foreign tourists in large numbers if adequate facilities are made available for them.
