LAHORE – Asad Manzoor Butt, the lawyer of two Pakistanis killed by US national Raymond Davis, on Monday filed a petition in the court of a district and sessions judge seeking action against Kot Lakhpat Jail superintendent, deputy superintendent, and others for illegally detaining him for four and a half hours. Asad said that the accused officials had intentionally stopped him and his assistant Nauman Ateeq from attending the proceedings of the case and did not allow them to meet their clients. The jail authorities refused to allow them to move freely in the high security zone.
The petitioner requested the court to order registration of a first information report (FIR) against the jail authorities for kidnapping and violating Article 10 of the constitution. Separately, Rana Ilmuddin filed a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) challenging payment of Diyat money by the federal government terming the act an illegal, unlawful and un Islamic. The petitioner also sought action against the officials who did not include the anti-terrorism act in the case and the charges of spying against the state.
Ilmuddin submitted that the sudden release of Davis in the double murder case left the country in shock. He said that Davis remained involved in anti-Pakistan activities for three years but the investigators did not probe him on these charges. The petitioner said that Davis’ name was on the ECL but even then he was sent abroad without the permission of the LHC.
