2 men posing as KESC workers sent to jail until 30th

KARACHI – The Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) police arrested two impostors and brought them before a judicial magistrate who sent them to jail until March 30.
Muhammad Ali alias Manan and his accomplice Ishtiaq had reportedly been selling illegal electricity connections in Orangi Town by pretending to be KESC employees. The KESC police arrested the impostors on Wednesday while they were tampering with the meter of a customer who was working in collaboration with KESC’s vigilance team.
Ali is a former KESC employee who sold illegal electricity and was also involved in making fake instalments of electricity bills. KESC’s vigilance team had been monitoring Ali after receiving several reports about his illegal activities. On Wednesday, the vigilance team set up a trap by collaborating with a man who invited Ali to tamper with his electricity meter.
The KESC police arrested Ali and Ishtiaq red-handed, seizing a fake ID card with ‘KESC Duty’ imprinted on it. The motorcycle being used by the impostors was also made to look like an official KESC vehicle, bearing ‘On KESC Duty’ on the registration plate.
The impostors were presented for a hearing before the judicial magistrate (West) along with all the evidence and witnesses, following which the court sent them to jail until March 30 when the case would be heard again.
