Ghurki pays tribute to women

LAHORE – Environment and Women’s Development Federal Minister Samina Khalid Ghurki briefed the officers of Ministry of Women’s Development about various projects and working of the ministry and paid tribute to the contribution of women to the national mainstream on Saturday. Ghurki stressed the need for an awareness campaign in the print and electronic media to educate women about their socio-economic and political rights. “We cannot achieve the goal of development without involving women in every sphere of life and government is trying its utmost to provide better opportunities, latest knowledge and skills so that they shoulder their responsibilities with greater pride, dignity and honour”, she said.
She also advised the secretary to continue the developmental projects on a priority basis. Women’s Development Secretary Batool Iqbal Qureshi, Director General Taimour, Senior Joint Secretary Nuzhet Fatima, DG Nighat and Deputy Secretary Umer Aziz were also present on the occasion. Qureshi said 30 more women’s development centers would be started within a year’s time, adding that the ministry plans to construct two working women’s hostels in Islamabad.
