ISLAMABAD – Car sales have increased by 12 percent in the first seven months of the current fiscal year to reach at 72,580 units compared to 64,965 units in the corresponding period last year. Car sales on month-on-month basis also witnessed a substantial rise of 73 percent to stand at 12,934 units in January 2011 against 7,446 units in December 2011, according to data maintained by Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA).
The highest growth was observed in the case of HCAR, a car assembling company, as its auto volume surged by 21 percent to 1,904 units in January 2011. On the other hand, the lowest drop was seen in DFML, another car assembling company, sales of which declined by 59 percent. However, overall car sales for the month of January 2011 improved by 15 percent on year-on-year basis to 14,668 units compared to 12,704 units sold in the same month last year.
During the first seven months of the current fiscal year, a major increase was observed in the sales of Pak Suzuki as its sales grew by 14 percent to 45,113 units compared to 39,646 units last year. The second in rank was Indus Motors, whose sales figures improved by nine percent to 28,293 units compared to 25,870 units in the same period during last year. In annual terms, considerable improvement was witnessed in the sales of Indus Motors, which improved by 15 percent in January 2011 to 5,885 units compared to 4,968 units sold in the same month of the previous year.
This was followed by Pak Suzuki sales, which improved by 14 percent to 6,793 units compared to 5,971 units. The data showed that increase in auto sales has been persistent across nearly all categories, except for the trucks, buses and tractors that saw a decline of 16 percent, 13 percent and three percent, respectively in the corresponding period last year.
