QUETTA – Balochistan Advocate General Salahuddin Mengal resigned on Friday citing personal reasons. Mengal, a senior lawyer, had been working as the provincial AG for the last eight years.
He called on Balochistan Chief Minister Aslam Raisani at the CM Secretariat to tender his resignation. The chief minister accepted his resignation while praising his services as the representative of the province in high and apex courts.
Sources close to the provincial government said Mengal was relieved after his statement in the Supreme court of Pakistan that security forces were involved in whisking away Baloch youth. Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary took suo motu notice of the deteriorating law and order of Balochistan and had sought an explanation from the government.
Mengal’s statement had annoyed the security forces, including intelligence agencies, which asked the provincial government to relieve Mengal.
