DASKA – Government Primary School Daska which was constructed in 1905 was now in a very dilapidated condition as the students used to drink water and use washroom at the same place that was affecting their health. It was a temple actually that was converted into a school after the partition of Indo-Pak sub continent in 1947.
The school’s strength was more than 700 that decreased to 288 as five rooms and three washrooms were declared dangerous after the earthquake in 2005 while eight teachers also left the school owing to this awful situation. The Education Department was told about the situation time and again but nobody had ever listened to them, said school principle Muhammad Ahmed Ghori.
Some months ago when the students were not in the class room fortunately, a portion of the roofs fell down and the students were narrowly escaped. Now the children were not willing to sit in the rooms and were compelled to take education in the open sky even in severe weather conditions while the entrance of the school was also in a dangerous condition. The officials concerned said they had been bringing the matter into the notice of higher authorities but they did not notice the school’s condition. The principal said the students in the school were the children of the poor and could not bear the expenditures of private schools. The students and teachers have appealed to the Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Gujranwala commissioner and Sialkot District Coordination Officer (DCO) Mujahid Sher Dil to take notice of the matter.
JOURNALISTS CONDEMN DAVIS’ RELEASE: The journalist community in Daska held a protest rally against the release of Raymond Davis outside the media chamber in model town. A number of journalists gathered there and chanted slogans against the release of Davis. They condemned Davis’ release and said it was an injustice with the whole nation. A number of journalists including Electronic Media Chairman Imran Sharif, Media Chamber Chairman Sheikh Zia, Vice Chairman Dr Amin Raza and senior reporters Rana Irshad, Zafry Bila, Ameen Khan, Naved Khokhar and Kamran Afzal attended the rally.
