LAHORE – An accountability court on Friday handed over former Haj director Rao Shakeel Ahmad to NAB on physical remand until April 1. Rao is involved in piling up illegal assets and was arrested on March 17 in Lahore on charges of maintaining various bank accounts, through which he made heavy transactions. During the hearing, counsel for the accused Amjad Pervaiz argued that NAB initiated an inquiry against Rao in 2001 and at the end he had been declared innocent.
In spite of inquiry findings, his arrest showed that he was being victimised by NAB, he said. NAB’s prosecutor, Abid Hussain Rizvi argued that there were some serious allegations against the accused and he operated several bank accounts, maintaining handsome amounts. The court after hearing the arguments handed over the former Hajj director to NAB on 14-day physical remand.
