Stay within your limits, SHCBA chief warns executive

KARACHI – The incumbent government is trying to curb the independence of judiciary, ignoring court orders and adopting a confrontation policy with the judges, but any interference into judicial affairs by the government will not be tolerated by the legal fraternity, argued Sindh High Court Bar Association (SHCBA) President Anwar Mansoor Khan on Wednesday.
Khan was speaking at an event organised by the SHCBA, and attended by SHC judges as well as a large number of members from the High Court Bar and the Karachi Bar Association. “We respect the executive, but it should stay within its limits and not interfere with the judiciary,” Khan said, adding that the current judiciary was honestly serving the people, but hurdles are being created against it.
SHC Chief Justice (CJ) Justice Mushir Alam said that all judges, including him, are answerable to the people of the country. The bar and bench have to ensure providing justice to the masses. Addressing SHCBA members, Justice Alam said that joint efforts of the bar and bench are needed to protect and sustain the independent and free judiciary.
The SHC chief justice also lauded the legal fraternity for their struggle in the movement for the independence of the judiciary, and urged the legal fraternity to enhance its integrity and fulfil the expectations of the people. He added that people would be provided easy and speedy justice by the joint struggle of both institutions.
