Robotic competition held in UET

PESHAWAR – A fire-fighting robotic competition was held here at the Institute of Mechatronics Engineering of the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Peshawar in Hayatabad on Wednesday.
The competition was arranged by the Robotics Club of UET and a total of eight student teams participated in the competition whereas each team had maximum four students. The participating teams were tasked to create a robot from the ground up that would extinguish five candles in a predefined arena and the robot which would do this in the minimum time, would be declared winner.
A robot designed by Saad and Haseeb of 6th semester Mechatronics engineering took only 42 seconds to extinguish all the candles and was declared winner. Fawad Rauf, Ihsan and Sohail from 8th Semester Mechatronics engineering came up with a robot which accomplished the task in 70 seconds and they were adjudged runners up while Usman, Murad, Anosh and Mohsin’s robot secured third position.
Robotics Club In-charge Engineer Zubair Ahmad welcomed the guests on the occasion and briefed them about the details of the event and evaluation criteria set for the competition. Faculty of Engineering Dean Dr Azzam-ul-Asar who was the chief guest on the occasion commended the efforts of Engineer Zubair Ahmad and Dr Sayed Riaz Akbar Shah for organising such an exciting and highly technical competition.
He termed the event as one of its kind in the history of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and urged organisers to keep on organising such events more frequently and with different themes. He vowed to support such events in future and distributed certificates and cash prizes among the winners.
