National Defence University delegation calls on Qaim

KARACHI – A 60-member delegation of the National Defence University, Islamabad along with senators, elected representatives from all provinces, civil society representatives, journalists, bureaucrats and social workers, led by Maj Gen Azhar Ali Shah called on Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah at the Chief Minister’s House on Wednesday.
Sindh Senior Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq, acting Chief Secretary Abdul Subhan Memon, secretaries of Education, Mines and Mineral departments and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority director among others welcomed the guests. According to an official handout, Haq, in his briefing to the delegation, said it is the endeavour of the present government to promote education and increase the literacy ratio, essential for progress and prosperity of the country.
For the purpose, teachers are being imparted proper training so that they could convey and teach the students in a befitting manner. The government is following the policies of UNICEF for the appointment of teachers and merit is being evolved as the criteria for selection and recruitment of teachers. The provincial government has always accepted the genuine problems of teachers at all levels but would not tolerate any interference or pressures in this regard.
The Sindh Teacher’s Development Authority is being established under a decision for resolving the problems of teachers in a better way. While answering some questions, the education minister said the nation was compelled to borrow from foreign countries due to the non-implementation of the NFC Award. With regard to the situation in Lyari, Haq said the provincial government is doing its best for the betterment of Lyari.
“Twenty new schools have been constructed in Lyari, while the Lyari Medical College has also been established,” he added. Haq further said that there are no last words in politics and the government is working to develop understanding with all political groups.
