LONDON – Former Pakistani captain Salman Butt along with fellow cricketers Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Amir is scheduled to appear before a British magistrate today for hearing into spot-fixing charges. The trio are facing criminal charges relating to alleged spot-fixing in relations to Lord’s Test last summer.
Butt and his two team-mates were last month banned by the International Cricket Council’s anti-corruption tribunal. Butt was banned for 10 years, Aamir for five years and Asif for seven years after the tribunal at Doha found all the three men guilty of bowling no-balls at prearranged times during the 4th Test against England.
The Pakistani cricketers have also lodged an appeal against the suspension with the Court of Arbitration for Sport which is based in the Swiss city of Lausanne.
