KARACHI – Expressing concern over the continuing strike of doctors in Punjab, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Wednesday said the legitimate demands of the protesting doctors should be accepted immediately. He said the doctors have been protesting for the past two weeks because of low incomes and problems being faced by them due to the sharp increase in cost of living.
Altaf regretted that the Punjab Government was not doing anything to solve the issue, due to which patients are facing extreme difficulties in the hospitals. The MQM chief said the salaries of doctors are not on par with the salaries of doctors in other countries due to which a large number of young doctors have migrated to foreign countries.
The countries, where the doctors’ salaries were not adequate, have considerably increased the salaries and hence their doctors are performing duties in their own countries willingly, he added. Altaf demanded that President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani take notice of the strike and solve the problems of the doctors in Punjab.
