4 militants, 2 cops killed in Mardan shootout

MARDAN – As many as four militants and two police officers were killed and 10 policemen and civilians injured in a shootout on Fatima Road at Shahdhand Tuesday morning. Reportedly, on a tip off about the presence of some militants at Shahdhand graveyard, a party, headed by Hoti SHO Mian Mazhar Shah Khan, reached the spot and blocked the road.
As the police party saw four suspects, they ordered them to stop for checking. Instead of stopping, all the four militants resorted to firing, causing serious injuries to the SHO and an assistant sub inspector. Then they spread in the graveyard. Taking prompt action, police from all over the city rushed to the spot and besieged the militants, killing all of them.
The injured SHO, Syed Mazhar Shah Bacha, and newly-recruited assistant sub inspector, Mukhtar Khan, succumbed to their injuries. Several other policemen, including two inspectors and three assistant sub inspectors, also sustained injuries and were rushed to local and Peshawar hospitals.
Mukhtar was a brother of the policemen who was killed in a terrorist attack on Choora Police Station in 2007.
