HAFIZABAD – A young labourer, frustrated by on poverty, committed suicide at Kolo Tarar Town on Tuesday. Saqib was doing labour but was unable to meet his demotic expenditures and often remained tense. On the day of the incident, he took poisonous pills. He was rushed to hospital, but doctors could not save his life.
SIX MEAT SELLERS ARRESTED: At least six butchers were sent to jail for selling unhygienic meat. Deputy District Officer Nauman Hafeez raided the shops of butchers and found six of them selling unhygienic meat. He ordered their arrest and sent them to jail after summary trials.
POWER LOOMS WORKERS STAGE DEMO: Power Looms Workers staged a demonstration against the authorities for not issuing social security cards and not paying Rs 7,000 salary to them.
A meeting of Power Looms Labour Union was held here with its president Muhammad Zaman Ansari. Speaking on this occasion, labour leaders lamented that they were performing 12-hour duty instead of eight hours, but they were not being paid montly salary of Rs 7,000 as per the labour policy.
They called upon the chief minister to take measures for ensuring the payment of minimum Rs 7,000 salary and issuance of social security cards for health and education facilities.
ANTI-POLIO DRIVE IGNORES EIGHT UCS: Hundreds of children were deprived of anti-polio drops owing to the negligence of the local health department.
The health department launched a three-day anti-polio drive. After the completion of this drive, the representatives of the Word Health Organisation visited various areas of the district and found that hundreds of children from Union Council No 1 City, Union Council Nanoana, Union Council Nahrianwala, Union Council Pindi Bhattian, Union Council Sukheki, Union Council Sadhoki and Union Council Jalapur Bhattiana.
World Healh Organization representative Dr Muhammad Amir has directed the health department to launch the campaign in the eight union councils again.
