LAHORE – Pakistan Electric Power Company (PEPCO) Director General Muhammad Khalid announced in a press conference on Tuesday that the major grid stations of the country had been repaired to overcome tripping in summers.
Khalid said the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) repaired and renovated transmission lines and the major grid stations of the city including the 220-kilovolt (KV) transformers of Kot Lakhpat, Ravi Road, Ghazi Road and Wapda Town.
“The repairs will help the consumers and the company by overcoming power failure due to heavy electricity load,” the PEPCO DG said. He said further that the grid stations in Multan, Faisalabad, Hyderabad, Islamabad and Peshawar were also upgraded. He said NTDC had spent Rs 683 million during 2009-2010 to repair 500KV and 220KV transformers.
The DG said that the current power generation was 11,020 megawatts (MW) but the demand was12, 380MW, thus there was a shortfall of 1,360MW. He said load-shedding was under control and the situation would improve further in the coming days. He said gas supplies were improving and the power plants that were closed because of gas shortage would soon be operational. “We will get 13mmcf gas for the Kotri, 30mmcf for the Jamshoro and 165mmcf for the Guddu power plants,” the PEPCO DG added.
