Karachi violence continues, 7 more killed

KARACHI – Seven more people, including activists of Awami National Party (ANP) and People’s Amn Committee (PAC), were shot dead by unidentified men in fresh targeted killings across the city on Monday. Many areas of the city remained tense due to the ongoing violence including the Saddar, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Pehlwan Goth, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Abul Hassan Ispahani Road, Banaras, Qasba Colony, Kati Pahari, Urdu Nagar, New Karachi and Lyari. An ANP worker was killed and two others suffered bullet wounds when some unidentified men opened fire at the ANP District East office in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
The injured men were being shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital when one of them was kidnapped from an armoured police carrier. The body of the kidnapped man was later found at Munawar Chowrangi in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. The dead ANP worker was identified as Humayun, 25 and the injured as Qasim and Karim. Qadir Khan, the ANP’s spokesman, claimed that the police themselves had handed over the injured activist to the killers. In another case, a 22-year-old man was shot dead in Block-3 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
A 57-year-old man was killed by unidentified men in Lyari. The victim was affiliated with the Peoples Amn Committee, they added. A 23-year-old man was gunned down by unidentified men in Quaid-e-Azam Colony, Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Separately, three bullet-riddled bodies were found within the jurisdiction of the Shahrah-e-Noor Jehan and Surjani Town police stations.
