KARACHI – The Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology (SSUET)’s Board of Governors approved the proposal of Ihsan Trust for financial assistance for SSUET students.
Accordingly, Ihsan Trust – through Meezan Bank – will provide interest-free soft loans to SSUET students selected by the university on merit-cum-need basis for continuation of their studies.
The university is also providing scholarships reducing almost half the tuition fee while remaining half or part thereof will be covered by the trust so that the students, who are unable to pay even half of the fee, are helped out through this facility.
Ihsan Trust will initially provide Rs 1 million a year and the amount would increase gradually as per demand. The plan was approved at the SSUET Board of Governors’ 39th meeting, which was held to discuss and review various issues, programmes and proposals for approval.
SSUET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Saiyid Nazir Ahmed presided over the meeting, which also reviewed the arrangements for the 14th convocation to be held on March 19. The board expressed satisfaction over the smooth completion of the admission process and approved the list of new admissions.
This year, around 4,446 prospectuses were sold, 3,854 applications were received for admission and 3,399 applicants were found eligible for entry test and interview – 1,540 of them were issued offer letters for admission on merit basis.
