ISLAMABAD – Federal Law Minister Babar Awan on Sunday said that Opposition Leader in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan was trying his best to destroy the democratic dispensation and send Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif again to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
“No gentleman can do what Nisar is doing. He is devastating the political and democratic dispensation in the country and hell-bent to send Nawaz Sharif again to Jeddah, not to let him (Nawaz) be a part of the National Assembly again,” Babar said addressing a hurriedly-called press conference while the press talk of Chaudhry Nisar was in progress.
Awan said that the PML-N was using state institutions as a shield for controlling its falling political graph after the failure to point out the challenges faced by the people. The mastermind of this ‘political game’ was Nisar who was playing his cards in the party in a move to sideline Nawaz Sharif from active politics.
“Nawaz Sharif will go to Jeddah again as he (Nisar) quietly held a meeting with some party workers at Lahore and prepared a slogan: ‘Whole nation want to see the tiger in Jeddah again’,” the federal minister alleged.
Why did Nisar, who remained a parliamentary secretary in the cabinet of General Zia, not file petition in a court of law when the Sharif family was facing time at the hands of former military dictator Pervez Musharraf, Awan said. “Why he did not file petition in the Supreme Court when Sharif brothers were stopped from landing in Pakistan,” he questioned.
“The PML-N is encouraging ‘judicial martial law’ in the country,” he said, adding that it was the same party which had attacked the Supreme Court. “It is a futile attempt to derail democracy to move the party in the lap of generals,” he remarked.
Alluding to Nisar’s allegation that Zardari had made democratic system hostage to his own desires, Awan said before levelling charges against the PPP, the PML-N must remember that its leadership had signed an amnesty accord with a dictator. A document signed by all the members of the Sharif family could not be called a democratic act on any account, Awan added while showing a copy of the agreement to the media persons.
Replying to Nisar’s view that he had not received any letter from the president, he said he would receive the letter after reaching the home once he concluded the press conference.
Awan said Nisar had the ridiculed symbols of Sindhi culture, including the cap and Ajrak. He also made it clear that his party would not use the daughters and daughters-in-laws of others for politics.
