Mystery of PPP-MQM meeting that never happened

KARACHI – Many uncertainties surround the meeting between the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) – scheduled to be held on Sunday but cancelled on Saturday night.
The two parties had decided to hold the meeting when an MQM delegation led by Dr Farooq Sattar met with President Asif Zardari in Islamabad. The final decision on the PPP-MQM ties had to be decided in this crucial meeting. The two parties did not make any official announcement, but sources said the meeting had been cancelled.
It was decided that only Sindh Governor Dr Isharatul Ebad Khan would meet Zardari. During a meeting with the PPP Sindh parliamentary committee, the president had said that the PPP wants to keep the MQM on board. However, the meeting between the Sindh governor and the president did not take place on Sunday and the busy schedule of the latter was cited as the reason.
The PPP has informed the MQM that meeting between two parties will be held today (Monday), a member of the MQM Rabita Committee told the media.
