Gujranwala Health Department’s vehicles rusting

GUJRANWALA – Gujranwala Health Department has six field vans, four ambulances at the districts headquarters hospital and a large number of other new vehicles that are rusting at the district health officer’s office while the authorities are inquiring an embezzlement of Rs 2.8 million as well.
Reportedly, the provincial government provided 15 luxurious vehicles to local health authorities out of which one landcruiser was for the executive district officer (health), another for the DHO and six for deputy DHOs.
Two vehicles were meant for the DHO headquarters’ officials while five others were out of order and parked at the DHO office while no one ever bothered to get them repaired. Only three vehicles were used for various operational campaigns in the whole district which were not enough for the job.
Gujranwala was provided with vehicles for lady health visitors (LHVs) and supervisors under National Health Programme, but had not been delivered to these poor ladies for three years.
Gujranwala is a city of nearly two million people and its four out of seven ambulances had been scrapped due to the myopic approach of the authorities concerned and citizens had been left at the mercy of private ambulances.
GUJRANWALA TO GET PRESS CLUB SOON: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz-N MNA Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan has said the dream of Gujranwala Press Club will soon be materialised as allocation of land and funds are going to be finalised by the administration.
He said this while addressing the participants at Gujranwala Electronic Media Association’s oath-taking ceremony. He was flanked by Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) President Sheikh Sarwat Ikram, senior journalists Ijaz Mir, Akram Malik, Khashif Sabir Khan and Tariq Munir Butt.
Khurram Dastgir Khan said that Gujranwala was the seventh largest city of the country, abut it was very unfortunate that press club did not exist here only due to the divide and rule policy of the bureaucracy in the past. He added that now era had been changed and a state of the art building for the press club would be constructed at the most suitable place at Sialkot Road soon.
Sheikh Sarwat Ikram said that media was the fourth pillar of the society and its importance had become inevitable in progress of the country and strengthening of democratic system.
Earlier, the chief guest took oath from newly elected office-bearers of the GEMA and GEMA President Ehtisham Ahmad Shami presented welcome address besides pointing out a number of problems faced the journalists in the city.
