CJP dismisses Grade-18 officer

ISLAMABAD – Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Monday dismissed Ishtiaq Ahmad, Private Secretary (BPS-18), because of his willful absence from duty during his period of deputation at the Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) Secretariat. According to a press release issued by the Supreme Court, Ishtiaq remained absent from 16.1.2010 to 8.6.2010 when he was working on deputation with the FTO Secretariat Lahore. He was directed to report at Quetta, but instead of joining the duty, he sent leave applications on medical ground and managed to obtain medical certificates which were found to be inadmissible.
Meanwhile, the FTO was directed to conduct a detailed departmental inquiry and submit a report with recommendations. On receipt of inquiry report, the official was issued a final show-cause notice. The chief justice imposed the penalty after providing him the opportunity to plead his case under Rule 4 of the Supreme Court (Appointment of Officers and Servants and Terms and Condition of Service) Rules, 1982.
