MUMBAI – Canada fast bowler Rizwan Cheema was reprimanded on Sunday for bowling two beamers against New Zealand in his team’s 97-run World Cup defeat. Cheema was ordered out of the attack by umpire Bruce Oxenford at the Wankhede stadium after unleashing a second beamer on the fifth ball of the 50th and final over of the Black Caps’ innings.
He had already received a first and final warning for bowling a similar full toss above waist height on the fifth ball of the 40th over. The International Cricket Council said Cheema had pleaded guilty to breaching the code of conduct under actions deemed to be “contrary to the spirit of the game.”
Cheema, who accepted the sanction, finished with figures of 0-64 from his 4.5 overs. Canada have shown impressive performance in this World Cup.
