KARACHI – Five hundred CNG buses would be plied in Karachi and other parts of the province in the first phase of the project, Sindh Transport Minister Akhtar Hussain Jadoon said on Sunday. “This would provide an affordable and comfortable mode of transportation to the people,” he added.
The minister pointed out that the Transport Department is constructing bus terminals in Karachi and other cities in the province. He further pointed out that basic facilities would be made available at these terminals.
Jadoon said that the route permits of all commercial vehicles in the province are being computerised and special stickers are being introduced that will promptly detect vehicles which have not paid taxes. He said that the Sindh government has set a tax target of Rs 70 million for the Transport Department.
The minister directed district officers to ensure that the target is met.
He also asked the officers to start checking of vehicles in their respective districts and impose fine on those not possessing route permits.
