ISLAMABAD – President Asif Ali Zardari on Friday night told PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain that he was greatly indebted to him, because he as the interior minister in Nawaz Sharif’s second government had supported him by saying that the narcotics case framed against Zardari had been fabricated and baseless. A source privy to the meeting between Zardari and Shujaat told Pakistan Today that when Shujaat thanked the president for not creating a rift in the PML-Q, Zardari recalled the favour Shujaat had once done to him.
“I am thankful to you for not encouraging any forward bloc in the PML-Q,” a source quoted Shujaat as telling Zaradri. PML-Q president asked Zardari that his party did not want to see the PML-N government in Punjab completing its five-year tenure, as its leadership had robbed the PML-Q’s mandate in the provincial assembly. “The Chaudhrys thanked Zardari for PPP’s approach of seeking PML-Q central command’s help in its hour of need instead of striking deals with its MNAs and senators separately,” said the source.
“The Chaudhrys told Zardari that a number of Unification Bloc members had started contacting them and the remaining would also rejoin the party soon,” the source said.
