KARACHI – Law enforcement agencies have arrested six people, including two women, for having close links with Raymond Davis, a CIA contractor who shot dead two Pakistanis in Lahore, Pakistan Today has learnt. Sources told Pakistan Today that some more arrests were to follow, including those of some important figures in the government.
Reliable sources said two people of Baloch origin were arrested from Defence Phase V, one from 13-D Gulshan-e-Iqbalm while another was arrested from Clifton. After initial investigation, law enforcement agencies arrested another two people, one from North Nazimabad and the other from Defence phase II.
All suspects have been shifted to an undisclosed location for the investigation. “We have a list of people who contacted Davis and we will arrest them soon,” a senior intelligence official said, adding that there “are names of some government officials in the list who were in contact with Davis”.
Two of the four suspects made several trips to Islamabad to see Davis on his call and had allegedly organised several meetings of the CIA’s agent with senior government officials, sources said. “We have obtained all the documents from concerned authorities regarding their visits to Islamabad and investigations are underway,” the sources claimed.
The information on the people in contact with Raymond was obtained from the record of his mobile phone numbers, the sources said, adding that further investigations were being conducted and more arrests would follow.
“We have also submitted a brief report to intelligence agencies and the interior and foreign ministries and are waiting for a reply,” an intelligence official said.
