Centre declines to pay reconstruction fund to KP

MINGAWARA – The federal government has expressed its inability to pay Rs 950 million in connection with reconstruction of terrorism-affected infrastructure in Swat valley.
The federal government had pledged Rs 1 billion rupees for reconstruction and rehabilitation of terrorism affected infrastructure and for the people of Swat valley on completion of military action in July 2009 last. Later Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani himself handed over a cheque of RS 50 million to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.
Through some highly placed reliable sources, Pakistan Today has learnt that recently Swat administration has established contacts with the federal government for payment of the remaining RS 950 million. However, the federal government has refused to honour such a request of Swat administration.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has already lodged a protest with the federal government for denial of distribution of foreign grants and assistance on damages-bases of flood havocs amongst the four provinces. Similarly, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has already expressed concern over distribution of US assistance under Kerry Lugar Bill amongst the provinces.
