LAHORE – Pakistan tennis team recently went to Hong Kong to play the first round of the Asia Oceana Group II Davis Cup tie against Hong Kong. This was a tough call for Pakistan as they were deprived of the home advantage due to security concerns.
This was the fifth clash between the two teams. The Pakistan team consisted of tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, along with Aqeel Khan, Yasir Khan and young Samir Iftikhar. The first match was played between Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Hiu Tung Yu of Hong Kong. Aisam lost the first set in the tie break 6-7(3), but clearly dominated the proceedings with his powerful serve and volley game.
He won the second set 6-4 and was 5-2 up in the third when he pulled his thigh muscle when chasing a far ball. Although Aisam lost his next two service games but went on to win the third set in tie break. Aisam lost the fourth and fifth sets 7-5, 6-4.
