LAHORE – The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is practising its right of freedom of speech on the Supreme Court’s (SC) judgement against the appointment of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman, People’s Lawyers Forum (PLF) Punjab office-bearers said on Saturday. They said that Sindhis have reservations about being judicially targeted. PLF Senior Vice President Malik Nasir Awan and Additional Secretary General Rana Sufyan Arshad said that positive criticism of a decision should not be seen as a confrontation between state institutions.
They said that if retired bureaucrats were not being allowed to be reappointed then why the same policy was not being applied to the Supreme Court (SC) as an institution.
The PLF leaders also expressed concern that instead of hearing pending case against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) leadership including the Hudaibia Paper Mills and money laundering cases, courts were taking suo motu notices against the PPP leadership.
They said that provincial bias should not be reflected in SC’s judgements and the
apex court should also take suo motu notices on massive corruption by the Punjab government in the Sasti Roti Scheme and other projects. The PLF leaders said that conspiracies against the PPP could not affect its politics of reconciliation and the party will continue to make sacrifices for democracy and the federation.
