ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has finalised a portfolio of 32 energy projects to seek financial assistance from China, including the construction of the Iran Pakistan (IP) gas pipeline project, oil refineries along Balochistan coast and exploitation of Thar coal reserves in Sindh.
Briefing reporters on the energy sector, Petroleum Secretary Imtiaz Kazi said the portfolio of energy projects would be discussed at the next meeting of the energy working group of the two countries. During the visit of Chinese prime minister last year, both the countries had set up energy working group to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector.
Pakistan has finalised a list of 23 projects while China indicated nine more projects and these would be sent to China by next week, he said adding that Pakistan was seeking Chinese investment for at least one oil refinery in Gwadar or anywhere else along the coastal highway.
He said the provincial governments were fully on board, as they had given their consent.
