KARACHI – Prof Dr Rahat Naveed Masud’s current work describes an elusive magic of transformation with aesthetics subtly entwined with visual effects, said prominent art critic Marjorie Hussain while talking about Masud’s solo exhibition titled ‘The Ishq Series’ that opens today (Saturday) at the ArtScene Gallery where it would run until March 22. One finds in ‘Ishq’ a dialectical understanding of art that includes the diversity of geometric abstraction and symbolism with elements of organic naturalism, Hussain said. Masud’s career in art has combined two strong factors – the understanding of aesthetics, and a penchant for academe.
Presently serving as the principal of University of the Punjab’s College of Arts and Design in Lahore, she is an artist renowned for luminous portrait studies and nature-inspired expression. She obtained her Master of Arts degree in Painting from the Punjab University, and her Master of Arts degree in Art and Design from the Kingston University in London, whereas her PhD degree was completed in the United Kingdom.
