KARACHI – The Trust for Vaccines and Immunisation (TVI) has launched its Typhoid Fever Awareness campaign in schools and madressas of Jamshed Town. Through this campaign, awareness about typhoid and its prevention would be provided to school- and madressa-going children, and the parents and teachers. TVI is running this programme with the collaboration of the International Vaccine Institute, City District Government Karachi, Sindh Health Department, Sindh Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI), and Sindh Education Department.
In the first phase of the programme, TVI had vaccinated around 40,000 children of Gulshan Town from October 2010 to December 2010. The second phase of the typhoid vaccination programme would start this month in Jamshed Town. TVI is a non-profit organisation promoting the mission of reducing the burden of vaccine-preventable diseases, and where possible, eliminate them. TVI is led by renowned paediatrician Prof Abdul Ghaffar, and is supported by other well-known medical professionals and philanthropists.
