LAHORE – The Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) threatened on Friday to start a long march if the government released Raymond Davis. “Raymond Davis’s release can trigger an Egypt-like political upheaval in Pakistan. He is a spy not a diplomat, therefore we will resist the release of the killer of innocent citizens,” SIC leaders said during a protest outside Press Club.
SIC leaders Pir Ather-ul-Qadri, Mufti Haseeb, Maulana Mohammad Ali, Nawaz Kharal and Zia-ul Haq Naqshbandi led the protest. Dozens of workers held banners and placards and chanted slogans against America, Raymond Davis, the Punjab Government, Taliban and inflation. Pir Ather-ul-Qadri and Maulana Mohammad Ali said by showing support for Raymond, the US is itself promoting extremism. Mufti Haseeb Qadri warned the rulers of a long march if Raymond Davis was released.
