Sherpao for dialogue with militants

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan People’s Party-Sherpao (PPP-S) President Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao on Friday demanded the PPP led government to constitute a national peace commission for holding dialogue with militants, as negotiation was the only way to restore peace in the country. “Military operations are not the only way to wipe out terrorism, the government should take political initiatives,” Sherpao said in a press conference at the National Press Club (NPC).
“American forces are now trying to smoothen the way for dialogue in Afghanistan so why can’t the same be done in Pakistan,” he asked. He said their government also took initiatives in this regard but couldn’t succeed, but “it did not mean that negotiations could not be undertaken in the future,” he added. Expressing dissatisfaction with the government’s performance, Sherpao said after a lapse of three years, the people were still awaiting reforms in every sector. “The masses are not satisfied with the performance of government because expectations of the people were very high.
