Petition filed to terminate BISEs’ online system

LAHORE – An application was filed in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday seeking termination of Dr Majid Naeem, head of new online system for all education boards and abolition of the boards’ online system that could not issue role number slips to students on time. The application was filed by Advocate Muhammad Azhar Siddique as an addition to his already pending main petition against the new Matric exams system.
The petitioner alleged that Dr Naeem was a corrupt person and he had introduced the online system in boards in sheer violations of rules and regulations of all Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISEs) in Punjab. He said thousands of candidates could not get role number slips due to the faulty online system and some got wrongly printed slips and failed to sit in the exam on March 7.
He said Dr Naeem jeopardized the careers of all these students, he should be held responsible for it and legal proceedings might be initiated against him for the removal of his service. Siddique pointed out that corruption references were pending with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against Dr Naeem and he had already been expelled from Government College University and Punjab University of Information Technology on corruption charges.
Siddique said under the boards’ rules and regulation no change in syllabus or the exam pattern was possible before a period of two years after its announcement. However, the petitioner said, the boards had introduced the new MCQs system in Matric exams (10th class) without giving two years’ time to students and also introduced Dr Naeem’s online system without testing its compatibility with the old manual system. Siddique said this step also failed as no student was able to submit online admission forms.
He pointed out that a majority of the students could not get their roll number slips and had to visit board offices many times. He alleged that the students were forced to bribe the officials concerned to get their roll number slips. The petitioner prayed to the court to pass Dr Naeem’s termination order and direct all BISEs to withdraw the newly-introduced exam pattern based on MCQs.
