Nepal Supreme Court CJ visits LHC

LAHORE – Nepal Supreme Court Chief Justice (CJ) Ram Prasad Shreshta emphasised the need for extending cooperation among the South Asian countries to promote the judicial system in the region. CJ Ram with his delegation inaugurated an IT centre at the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday. The centre aims at informing lawyers and litigants about the details of their cases in timely fashion through SMS and email service.
LHC Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry welcomed the delegation, comprising CJ Ram and other judges, at LHC.
A police contingent presented the guard of honour to the guests. The inauguration was held after a luncheon, hosted by the LHC CJ, and a presentation by LHC Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah to the delegation, regarding the history of LHC and functioning of judiciary in Pakistan. According to a press release, the guests were told that the IT Department and the Judicial Branch of the LHC took the initiative of SMS and email service. About 400 to 500 fresh cases are being filed in the LHC daily and the counsels and litigants are requested to submit their mobile numbers and email addresses with the urgent cell of LHC, said the release.
CJ Ram desired an increase in cooperation and exchange of judicial delegations so that an ideal system of dispensation of justice could be evolved in the region. He also lauded the ‘grandeur’ and the ‘beauty’ of the LHC’s building. CJ Ijaz informed the delegation about the different tiers of the court and their functioning. Nepal SC Justice Tahir Ali Ansari and CJ Ram’s wife also accompanied the delegation. CJ Ram will address the Punjab Judicial Acasdemy on Saturday (today) at 9:00 am.
