LONDON – British newspaper Telegraph has claimed that Iran is supporting Taliban to defeat NATO force in Afghanistan. According to the report, British Special Forces last month seized a large quantity of Iranian- Made rockets hidden in three trucks after a fierce fight with Taliban in the southern afghan province of Nimroz, bordering Iran. A spokesman for NATO forces in Afghanistan said that after tests, the weapon experts determined that these rockets had been made in an Iranian factory. He said that this was first time that Iranian manufacture 122 MM rockets were recovered in Afghanistan. British Foreign Secretary William Hague has said that UK’s ambassador to Iran has raised the matter with officials in Tehran.
He told Telegraph that Britain is ‘extremely’ concerned by the latest evidence that Iran continues to supply with weaponry- weapons clearly intended to provide the Taliban with the capability to kill Afghan and ISAF soldiers from significant range. Diplomatic sources in London told British daily that Shia Iran has no desire to see Sunni Taliban take power in Afghanistan, but instead are providing enough support to harass NATO forces.
