‘Govt spending Rs 15b in FATA’

PESHAWAR – The Federally Administrative Tribal Areas (FATA) development outlay marked almost a double increase over the previous years as during current financial year Rs. 15 billion is being incurred on development activities in FATA as compared to Rs. 7.6 billion earmarked during year 2006-07. This was stated during a presentation to the participants of 12th National Security Workshop of National Defense University Islamabad at the Governor’s House here on Thursday. Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Barrister Syed Masood Kausar presided over the presentation and also answered different questions from amongst the participants.
Additional Chief Secretary FATA Fazal Karim Khattak through a presentation briefed the participants about FATA’s geographic profile, administrative set up, tribal customs and traditions, FCR, current security situation, efforts for curbing militancy and achievements in this regard, and return and rehabilitation of IDPs from tribal areas.
Regarding govt development strategy in FATA, the participants were informed that more than 1,000 development schemes were under way. The FATA Development Authority working on mega development projects.
As regards the IDPs, it was stated that some 186,597 families had been displaced, out of which 45,000 families returned. Similarly 6,000 families displaced in Mohmand Agency have also returned to their abodes.
