KARACHI – Four suspects having links to banned terrorist group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were arrested during a raid in the Metroville area, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) said on Wednesday. Addressing a press conference, CID Senior Superintendents of Police Omar Shahid and Chaudhry Aslam said that a CID team raided a house in Metroville on a tip-off and arrested four suspects. The detainees have been identified as Musharraf, Sherz Ali, Hamidullah and Ahmad Ali, who are suspected of belonging to the TTP, the CID officials added.
They also recovered a suicide jacket that could raze a high-rise in a flash, 32 kilogrammes of explosives, hand grenades, huge cache of arms and ammunition, and drugs from the suspects’ possession. “This is the first instance when we have recovered a suicide jacket with five mortar shells affixed to it.
This clearly reveals that the terrorists were planning to target a high-rise,” SSP Shahid said. The police already have criminal records of the detainees, who are believed to be involved in an attack on senior police officer Farooq Awan on January 8, 2009, as well as 11 other cases of terrorism. The arrested suspects received training in terrorism from Waziristan and then arrived in Karachi for attacking the offices of sensitive government organisations and prominent officers of the law enforcement agencies.
SSP Shahid told Pakistan Today that during the interrogation, the detainees revealed vital information, which would aid the CID in arresting their accomplices.
