LAHORE – Another two suspects involved in carrying out the terror attack close to an intelligence agency’s office in Faisalabad on Tuesday have been arrested by the Punjab police, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Javed Iqbal said on Wednesday. Iqbal was talking to reporters after addressing the passing out parade of the 7th Intermediate course at Police Training School, Chuung. The IGP said the suspects were arrested on information extracted from Usman, a key suspect arrested on Tuesday. Iqbal said Punjabi Taliban had nothing to do with the attack in Faisalabad and blamed a banned outfit for the bombing.
The IGP said terrorists wanted to target the office of an intelligence agency, but failed because of the strict security measures in place. Addressing the passing out parade, the IGP said the government and law enforcement agencies were taking effective steps for the eradication of terrorism from the province, but the general public should collectively play their role and cooperate with police for curbing the menace. The IGP said Punjab Police was fighting the war against terrorism on its frontline and several police officers had embraced martyrdom in the line of duty.
He called upon successful candidates to keep their moral high and be determined to deal with the challenges of terrorism and extremism in the province.
