Sports minister wants international events in Pakistan

LAHORE – Aziz Ahmed Bilour, Federal Secretary Sports gave a comprehensive briefing to Engr. Shaukat Ullah, Federal Minister for Sports on Tuesday at Islamabad. The secretary apprised the minister about the working and functions of the Sports Ministry and its attached departments. The briefing included thorough details of the 47 on-going development projects across the country. Director General PSB, senior officers of ministry and PSB were also present during the meeting.
Talking to media persons, the minister said that the Sports ministry was facing acute shortage of funds and he would request the Prime Minister to give special assistance for the development projects. Answering a question, he said he was ready to talk to the representatives of international sports bodies to revive sporting activities in Pakistan, which were hampered due to the law and order problem. He said that the government will take all possible measures for the safety and security of the touring teams to encourage international sports events in Pakistan.
Earlier, Ms. Cat Evans, First Secretary (Political) British High Commission called on the Minister for Sports. In the meeting, the Minister emphasised the need to explore the possibilities of engaging the youth of the troubled region of FATA into healthy sports activities. He said he wanted to see bats and balls in the hand of children instead of bombs and bullets. He said that he will introduce sports at school level across the country so that the youth at the grass roots level may get a sporting and healthy environment.
