Contractor asked to speed up construction work

GUJRANWALA – Gujranwala Division Commissioner Saeed Iqbal Wahla has directed the contractor of Gondlanwala Road to speed up construction work and urged all departments concerned to complete their works within timeframe.
He paid a surprise visit to the under-construction road along with Development Director Anwar Aziz, Gujranwala Development Authority Director General Hakim Ali Doultana and contractor Suleman Khalid. He was told on the occasion that a four-kilometer-long dual road would cost Rs 306.5 million of which Rs 34.6 million had already been paid to the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines (SNGPL), Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) and Pakistan Telecommunication Limited (PTCL) for shifting their services to proper places.
GEPCO’S BOard TAKES CHARGE: Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) new board of directors (BoD) has taken the charge and industrialist Hassan Javed has been elected as the BoD’s new chairman. The new members are GEPCO Chief Executive (CE) Muhammad Ibrahim Majoka, Muhammad Zargham Ishaq Khan, Professor Dr Nizam-ud-Din, Muhammad Ashraf Khan, Sheikh Sarwat Ikram, Khawar Anwar Raja, Arshad Mahmood Mirza, Ashfaq Ahmad Mughal and Maqsood Ahmad Butt.
Ibrahim Majoka said the GEPCO had restricted its line losses in accordance with the international standards that were fewer than 10 percent while its recovery had been approximately 100 percent for many years.
He added the GEPCO had enhanced its distribution capacity from 1700 MVA to 2800 MVA and its system was so reliable that if there was power shortage in the country, the company could provide power without any interruption. He further said it would be a challenge for the BoG to facilitate the masses and industrialists at this time of power crisis in the country.
16 DACOIT GANGS BUSTED: Police have busted 16 dacoit gangs and recovered the looted goods worth Rs 25 million, including 22 motorcycles, 50 cell phones and gold jewellery after arresting 56 gangsters.
City Police Officer (CPO) Ghulam Mahmood Dogar said this addressing a press conference at his office.
The police busted six gangs and arrested their 22 members who were involved in robberies in Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sahiwal and Okara, he said and added that the city division police arrested 20 criminals belonging to four different gangs which were involved in dozens of robberies. He said Qila Dedar Singh police had arrested Ashiq alias Acchu along with his two accomplices who killed a bakery proprietor Abdur Rehman during a dacoity last month. He appreciated the professional skills of Station House Officer (SHQ) Amir Hussain Sandhu for tracing the blind murder. He added Aroop police also managed the release of a three-year-old baby girl who was kidnapped for ransom by a servant of the same house.
